ABOUT TENERIFE

Tenerife: Tenerife is just four hours and 15 minutes flying time from the UK. The island is drenched in sunshine all year round. With its position off the coast of Morocco the yearly average temperature is around 23C. Although Tenerife is closer to Africa than Spain the atmosphere and the lifestyle is truly Spanish. Tenerife has two weather climates. The island is separated by Mount Teide which is Spain’s highest mountain. The North of the island is cooler and is lush and green, while the South is more desert-like.

Santa Cruz: Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a very friendly town with around 212,000 inhabitants. The first things to call your attention will be its beautiful parks, as Park Garcia Sanabria, and its lively streets. Many cruisers from all the world touch at its picturesque port, which is surrounded by high rocks. The port area is the town's real centre: Plaza de Espana, with its Cabildo Insular.

Puerto de La Cruz: The old town of Puerto de la Cruz, cantered around the small fishing port, remains remarkably unchanged. Old houses in the traditional Canarian style and the fishermen landing their catches gives Puerto de la Cruz a charming atmosphere. The resort lies on a rocky coast with three small beaches of black sand. Puerto de la Cruz is Tenerife's most visited site, and due to its favoured climate one of the most visited towns of Spain all the year through. Its picturesque townscape alone makes it worth a visit.

The famous Playa de Martianez is a most beautiful complex of natuaral basins, with the exciting architectonical works of Cesar Manrique and most modern installations as additional attractions.

Loro Park: is another main attraction. Its name comes from the numberless parrots in those beautiful tropical gardens, but most impressive are certainly the spectacular performances of dolphins.

Highly interesting as well is the park Jardin de Aclimatacion, between Puerto de la Cruz and Ortava, which was created in 18th century and offers a great variety of plants from all over the world.

Worth visiting are as well the navigation museum Museo Naval de la Casa Iriarte, the fortress Castillo de San Felipe and the church Nuestra Senora de la Pena de Francia.

Playa de las Americas: Playa Americas is a modern playground with an international party atmosphere that suits young couples and groups of friends. The beaches are popular, watersports are brilliant, and there’s a waterpark (and the bus there is free). Things really come to life after dark. The only place to be is on the famous Veronica’s strip - there are so many bars, pubs and clubs that the only problem is choosing which one!

Los Cristianos: Los Cristianos is 3km southeast of Playa Americas and is popular with families. The resort is more sophisticated than its playful neighbour, and people-watching from the many pavement cafes is a favourite pastime, as is watching the yachts gently bobbing up and down in the harbour. A marvellous, gently-shelving sweep of dark sand around a sheltered bay. The nearby harbour is a great place for boat trips.

.

Costa del Silencio: The Costa del Silencio comes under urban planning controls there are no high rise apartment blocks, no hotels and most buildings are no higher than three floors. From here you can catch a bus into Playa Americas or los Cristianos journey time around 25 minutes. The bus service on the island is very good and you can get to most parts of the island check out their timetable on www.titsa.com The Costa del Silencio has two first class golf courses with a third one to be started shortly. The Costa del Silencio is a lovely area and has grown in popularity over the years. There are many nature trails here and the cliff top walk is stunning watch the sunset here it is stunning. There is a beautiful rocky coastline at Amarila Bay snorkel and dive here in crystal clear water. Entertainment is put on in quite a few bars, for something special go to Flicks at Amarila Bay. The village of Las Galleatas is not far away about a 15 minute stroll. Here there are bars, restaurants and shops of all descriptions there is a sandy/shingle beach which is great for surfing. The beautiful promenade with its bars and speciality restaurants takes you down to the beautiful harbour and the local fish market. At the harbour there is another beach where you can swim in complete safety there is a diving club here as well.
